DONATE & GET PROPORTIONAL DISCOUNT - LULOPLANET RESPONDS TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The Covid-19 pandemic has  direct impact on the quality of our lives regardless of latitude, but what if a someone is completely deprived of the livelihood, cannot work, and there is a lack of  food and water?

The spread of the epidemic has led to restrictions on standard daily functioning - completely depriving Wayuu communities from their sources of income.

We collect money HERE in order  to help Indigenous families from the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia.

We believe in direct, purposeful help, normally we personally engage in charity actions on the spot. This time, however, due to flight restrictions, we have to rely on a friendly organization operating on the coast of Colombia.

Wayuu communities, whose main source of income is the creation and sale of handicrafts, are not able to move from semi-arid areas to towns & cities to offer their products. They stopped earning any money and the specter of hunger, for entire families -  has become their sad  reality.

We will transfer the collected money to Wayuuando Fund.
The leader of the organization Ediana Montiel and people cooperating with her personally distributes food and cleaning products to 5 different, remote Wayuu communities in the desert areas of La Guajira in the northern Colombia, as well as within the town of Uribia.

Children who would normally receive food at schools - now  eat only once a day (if at all). Their parents often don't eat anything all day long. Access to clean, potable water is a huge problem throughout the region, which has been increased by the current epidemiological situation.

This is not the only problem the Wayuu communities face – as nomads they tend to live in the border territories of both Colombia and Venezuela - the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela and the influx of people into Colombia causes deficits in virtually every area of life.

Importantly - the Wayuuando team, with whom we are in constant contact, has managed to provide until now the food to as many as 97 families.

We are 100% convinced that the money we collect will go into good hands. We will hand them over to Wayuuando to buy food, share & distribute it to families in need.

You can follow the Wayuuando actions HERE

By making a donation - you are bringing tangible help. You will receive a DISCOUNT on purchases in our online store for the amount proportional to your donation. The discounts also apply to the newest collection.
Terms & conditions of the action are available HERE

Fashion Revolution Week in Poland logo

In 2015 destiny brought us to Guajira in Colombia. While exploring this remote area, we would never think our lives would become so strictly connected with this incredible part of the world. It was then, when for the 1st time we personally met Wayuu artisans crochetting & weaving bags & beautiful hammocks, called chinchorros which they kindly offered us to use during our stay.

Since then - we have learnt their names by heart & established close cooperation with them - contributing step by step to improve the quality of their lives & living conditions.

A year ago we took one more step ahead and invited Polish artisans & designers to work on a common goal, which was the collection combining the Carribean ancestral weaving technique with modern Slavic design.

This year, we took this idea even further & strenghtened the cooperation. The outcome of our efforts  will be visible still this week as we are about to launch our new ss2020 collection.

    ABOUT THE TRADITIONAL MOCHILAS WAYUU

    ABOUT THE TRADITIONAL MOCHILAS WAYUU

In various occasions we were asked, if our bags were original or not. Yes, they are! We can assure you of that. They cannot be more original than they are :) Here is the proof...The photo story of our latest journey to Colombia.

Due to numerous & simultaneous projects in the Caribbean, including the Caribbean coast of Colombia we get on the spot on a regular basis - all together or as solo travelers. We choose bags and accessories for you and we look at the creative processes. When duties stop us on this side of the ocean, we count on the trusted person onsite who supports us in our distant efforts.

Wayuu bags have officially been recognized as the national heritage of Colombia, Venezuela would probably do the same, if not for the political turmoil, that is currently experiencing.
The Wayuu Indigenous communities on both sides of the Colombian-Venezuelan border use their bags for various purposes and each type of bag is characterized by its own name.

In addition, the bags are divided depending on the quantity of weave strands into so-called una hebra (in this case bag is created from thin weave strand) or dos hebras (here bag consists of 2 or more weave strands). The creation process of the 1st type is much more time consuming. Our Customers value both of them, because of their artistic craftsmanship.

There are a lot of companies on the market who are trying to commercialize Wayuu bags under different brand names. And it's OK!
Thanks to our efforts, in the last couple of years the world was able to admire the intricately created craft that combines old tradition with the almost haute couture fantasy.

There are no better or worse Wayuu bags. Believe us. The only difference is how much each company is willing to spend on marketing campaigns related to the promotion of the patterns that the company has chosen, which is usually reflected in the price of the product. We supply our collections in the same places. Some patterns are handmade by the same crafters.

We are lucky to know some of them personally. :)

In general - do not immediately believe in the story that a particular pattern was invented specifically by the particular company. You can count on the fingers of one hand the Colombian designers who have contributed to the transformation of traditional Wayuu bags into fashion accessories, adding to them for example leather elements or Swarovski crystals and present their collections on catwalks.

Wayuu crafters are artists, although some of them often cannot even read and write. They create traditional patterns or they respond to the demand while preparing funny patterns.  The final result depends solely on them. We happened to choose for our collection the bags 100% invented by the Wayuu women and then realized that other companies claimed them as their own patterns!

We hate that and will always speak about it openly. There are plenty of cases of cultural appropiation, when the fashion world hijacks the traditional patterns without showing the source.

The luloplanet team is comprised of three people with wide background in digital marketing, social media, ecommerce & financial markets in the areas totally different than the one represented by luloplanet.

And also ... the family of travelers.

Why do we have the lower prices than the competition?

We have been the largest distributor of Wayuu bags in Central and Eastern Europe. We launch the collections on various markets in short series. We also provide wholesale services to other vendors across the globe.

The in-depth knowledge of Latin American culture and Spanish language allows us to act without intermediaries And finally - we are open to alliances with other suppliers who, like us, want to act in a fair-trade spirit.

Competition is not bad if we all have a legitimate goal.

But of course we mean the fair competition...Do not trust the declarations of companies that buy bags from intermediaries, claiming that they support Indigenous communities.  In the last 5 years we have observed these unfair practices of our imitators.
If sustainable fashion is important to you, ask questions e,g. what exactly the companies have done for the support of artisans on top of buying goods for reselling as part of a regular wholesale commercial transaction.

Each Wayuu bag is the luxurious item. Nowadays luxury means wearing something handmade  with a great care.
We wish you a very pleasant shopping experience on our site

HOW TO TAKE CARE ABOUT YOUR WAYUU BAGS FROM LULOPLANET?

HOW TO TAKE CARE ABOUT YOUR WAYUU BAGS FROM LULOPLANET?

If #mochila Wayuu, which you bought from us, got dirty, no worries, there are couple of simple ways to clean it.

Minor dirt can be delicately removed with a wiper  or sponge and the back should be then left to dry naturally.

If you use our bag mostly all of the time (which doesn't surprise us at all!:>) and it requires the cleaning, there is nothing simpler! Don't worry, you can wash it in the washing machine.

However remember about  the basics, please:

    • Wash the bag in the washing machine in cool water using hand wash programs for delicate fabrics such as silk or wool.
    • Use only a mild detergent.
    • Hang the bag to dry away from direct heat.

We have been using our own Wayuu bags for many years and washed them many times without compromising their quality. We believe that with proper care you will enjoy using them as long as we do.

How should you care for leather bags from our limited collections?

Our Wayuu leather bags are made of excellent quality Italian leather, which our customers value very much, because of their durability and pleasant texture.

    • In case of a minor dirt, you can also gently clean the stain with a wiper or sponge. There are also multiple leather formulations that you can use to clean, moisturize or impregnate them.
    • Take into account, please, that jeans or other heavily dyed materials touching the light leather can cause stains that are difficult to remove.
    • Moisture and excessive heat are harmful for the leather bag - if it gets wet, hang it in a dry, ventilated room and be patient until it is completely dry.

Other than that, have fun & enjoy wearing our beautiful bags in every occasion!
